Every January 1st, we are reminded that the New Year can be a fresh start for us, a chance to do something different or make changes for the better. People make resolutions to get healthy, or set goals like finding a new job or work on improving their relationships or even decluttering their house. Sometimes, though, our past can hamper our resolve to move forward, and criminal charges and convictions can lead to people being “stuck” in dead-end jobs, without better prospects. At Granados Law Group, we can help. This year, resolve to get your criminal record expunged! An expungement is a means by which we can take a magic eraser to your past, leaving your record clean, like it never happened.

Call our office today at 919.650.2851, and we can talk about the expungement process. All it takes to get started is $50. We run your statewide background check, and then an attorney reviews your record to determine whether you qualify for an expungement of your record. Dismissed charges and Not Guilty charges are eligible, but there are limitations on what criminal convictions are eligible for expungement. Once the attorney reviews your record, they will get in touch with you (typically within 3-5 business days), to let you know what you are eligible to have expunged off your record, and give you a quote for how much it will cost, based on the amount of work involved, how many petitions we have to file, and any filing fees associated with specific types of expungements.

For most people, getting their record expunged is life-altering, and can make things like getting a job or a new apartment a realistic goal, rather than a pipe dream. This New Year treat yourself to a criminal record makeover, and enjoy the New YOU, without the baggage of old criminal charges weighing you down. Our staff is standing by at 919.650.2851 to help change your life!

Expungement Law Changes- The Second Chance Act

The Second Chance Act is a bipartisan “clean slate” bill that automatically expunges your criminal charges that are dismissed or disposed “not guilty” starting in 2021, and allows individuals to petition for expungement of all nonviolent misdemeanor convictions after 7 years of good behavior at the end of 2020.

What is a North Carolina Expungement?

A North Carolina criminal expungement is a legal process that petitions the Court to remove a criminal conviction or a criminal charge from a person’s record and to destroy the state’s record of the arrest, charge, and/or conviction.
